Filler AFTERCARE
Immediately after injection:
Bruising, swelling, redness, mild soreness, pin point bleeding, and asymmetry are all normal and expected immediately after treatment. These symptoms should improve daily and are not indicative of your final results. Full results are achieved 2 weeks after dermal filler treatment.
For the first 24 hours after dermal filler treatment:
Gently apply an ice pack or cold compress to treated area for a few minutes on, and a few minutes off.
Avoid drinking alcohol.
Avoid exercise, saunas, hot tubs, hot wax, extended sun exposure or any other exposure to intense heat.
You may wash your face as normal but please avoid application of makeup, skin care products, etc. to the treated area. The only exceptions are Aquaphor, Vaseline, and Arnica which are safe to put directly on treated areas.
Avoid taking pain relievers like Motrin, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aspirin, etc. If you take any of these as instructed by your doctor (for instance, to prevent heart attack or stroke), DO NOT STOP TAKING without first consulting your doctor. You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for mild pain or soreness.
Limit blood-thinning products like salmon oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, dark chocolate, and grapefruit.
For the first 3 days after dermal filler injection:
Avoid pressure to the treated area. You will also want to avoid sleeping directly on the area or any other prolonged pressure to the injection site. This can cause migration of the filler.
For lip fillers: avoid direct and indirect pressure on your lips. Direct pressure means any pressure directly on your lips, for example kissing, sleeping on your lips, or playing an instrument that puts pressure on your lips. Indirect pressure means making your lips as small and tight as possible like when making an "o" with your lips. That means you must avoid using straws, whistling, vaping, etc.
Day 4-14 (LIP FILLER, ONLY):
This is your massage window. Massaging your lips should ONLY be done if you feel or see a lump or a bump. Massage by placing one finger over the bump, one finger under the bump, and rub back and forth firmly until you feel the bump soften underneath your grip. If there are no lumps or bumps, please leave your lips alone.
If migration massage was also discussed with you, this is the window of time where this should be done.
Wait 14 days before having...
Any treatment to your face like facials, lasers, peels, microneedling, etc.
Any and all dental work (yes even a cleaning).
Vaccinations or vaccine boosters.
Additional Considerations:
You may experience lumps and bumps after filler, particularly lip filler. These are not dangerous and many times go away without treatment. However, any bump you may see or feel is okay to massage after day 3. You should not develop new bumps after day 14. If this occurs, contact our office right away. If you have questions about lumps or bumps, please contact us.
The initial swelling you experience immediately after filler may last longer in some areas vs other areas. During this time, the treated area may look uneven, therefore, the result directly after this treatment should not be seen as the final result. Final results are seen after 2 weeks.
Arnica is a natural ointment/tablet commonly used to reduce bruising. You can find Arnica in the natural foods section of your grocery store, or at local pharmacies.
If you experience any symptoms other than what are discussed on this page, or symptoms that differ from symptoms you've experienced after prior filler, this may be a sign that you need urgent intervention. Should this occur, please contact your injector right away via text at (954) 394-8009.
